Invest-A-Vision Gets Re-Started AGAIN (!) - Originally Got Started in November 2016, then re-started in November 2020, now yet another attempt in November 2023...
The original and this entry were inspired by music, music that has moved me. Originally in 2016 and again recently, the music inspired, invigorated me in a way that appears naively so--a reflection of my optimistic nature? The concert then offered a vision of promise, but the bubble burst in November 2016 with a political victory that personified the prevalence of overwhelming disgruntled discontent and the desire to change back to what many thought made America great, but unfortunately not for all Americans. This Blog is not meant to be political, but more the desire to express and to explore how sentiment affects financial and economic decision-making and what it means for the world's well-being.

After attending a concert in September 2016 at the Berlin Philharmonie in Berlin, Germany, I am inspired to debut the Invest-a-Vision blog which is meant to be an interactive site for discussing the realization of visionary inspirations through investing time, imagination, confidence, expertise and naturally finance or money.
The concert was two pieces composed and directed by the American, John Adams, Composer in Residence in Berlin for the 2016/17 season. He is known in the classical world as a minimalist described well in this link for those unfamiliar with his work: A guide to John Adams’s music (The Guardian)
His compositions are physical, experimental and visual and not melodious. The first piece, “Harmonielehre”, Part I is what inspired me. Loud and repetitive, causing my eyes to journey through the orchestra searching for the source of the powerful sounds and feeling the forcefulness of the flow. It was brave and free and it felt inviting with a ‘Go for it’ lure like masculine sirens wooing bystanders. Well, to me much of this is what America is all about!
America is a country that has attracted adventurers, risk takers and people looking for freedom away from oppression. And most importantly, America is the ‘Land of Opportunity’ where these very risk takers can try successfully to implement their visions. Isn’t it great that a composition, the musicians and their large variety of instruments (fantastic percussion) can inspire the vision of what in my view has made and makes America great? There were parts of the composition that made me imagine road-trips through the expansive and beautiful landscape and some parts inspired visions of soaring eagles over mountains. All very cliché, but true.
John Adams was rather inspired by huge container ships in the San Francisco Bay, home of Silicon Valley, venture capitalists, inspired game changers and risk takers. San Francisco where he resides is a city on the edge. So this blog is an invitation to express food for thought on seeing how visions can be realized through the investment process. How do these disruptive times influence ideas and viable businesses.
Close the Gap: At the time of the original posting (September 2016), Trump was not expected to win although it was getting more evident that it would be close. In November 2016 when this was originally published, he was about to take charge and was determined to make America great ‘again’ and it is sad that all the values and history that has contributed to America's greatness are not recognized in Trump’s plan. The real discussion points should focus on how to close the inequality gap and capture the founding values of America. Individual pursuits are the pride of America, but most people need a structure to optimize their performance. All should have a chance to succeed and not be restricted from pursuing their dreams.
It's 4 years later, Joe Biden won and is now President Elect with a very exciting Vice-President Elect Kamala Harris! Let’s start with what makes America great esp. now when most people worldwide are quite disturbed with the current situation. We seem to be in a world full of doubt, questioning the integrity of not only democracy, but also its institutions and its leaders. Where do you see America's future potential? NOVEMBER 2023 -- MUSIC MOVES ME!
So things seem to have gotten worse. One year ahead of the next Presidential election and I just attended another concert here in Berlin with the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin (German Chamber Orchestra). It had its own type of controversy, but warm, inspiring and i walked out feeling actual optimism, a sentiment missing esp. now in these times of dire conflicts and hardships. I miss my pride in America's majesty, the greatness, but most importantly the ability to negotiate, compromise or even constructively peruade on matters where all shoud benefit. America and the world feel poisoned, divided, hopeless. All quite sad. We all have been forced to confront and realize much of the not so great aspects of America's current and past histories and culture with outspoken realities esp, from those who experienced injustices. It doesn't have to be this way.
This source of optimism was a concert with a global message recognizing Human Rights and the positive Rights of Being Human--the goodness in mankind.*** These recognition and support of these rights will hopefully bury the evil things perpetrating the world currently esp. the acts of war and the devastation of nature causing so much climate discord. The composition is called "Human" from Helge Berggrabe (Links below). Inspiring! The compositions warm the heart and emanate hope and beauty. Good can prevail.
How does this newfound optimism fit an interactive site for discussing the realization of visionary inspirations through investing time, imagination, confidence, expertise and naturally finance or money? The idea with this new Blog Entry is that perhaps we are going full circle and now and about to bury all this destructive, counter-productive and hateful behavior and activity and amend our ways, reconstruct. The negative trends only creates losses, mostly zero-sum, which is unacceptable in a world focused on profits, growth and progress.
There historically comes a moment when truth disbelievers implode, start to lose. People start to see through it, fight and counter it and prevail. It has happened before, good and the revitalization of truth takes hold—a real super challenge in the Age of the Internet. Through negotiation and trade, regulation, becoming One With Nature, we can create Win-Win outcomes, and everybody should profit. We can only hope that all the important players see the light. Invest-A-Vision! Enjoy the music--it will move you too!
